With grants such as the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, and Social Relief of Distress Grant, SASSA is assisting over 19 million South Africans. With grant funding, people can buy food, access healthcare, and even educate their children. Additionally, SASSA has published the payment schedule of these grants for September 2025 to aid people in accessing their funds.
Revised Payment Schedule for September 2025
SASSA has adjusted grant payment dates for September 2025 so as to take care of the most at risk. The adjustments listed below have also been made to reduce the amount of people at payment points.
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 2 September 2025
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 3 September 2025
- Child Support and Other Grants: Thursday, 4 September 2025
SASSA has also announced that the payment of the R370 SRD grant will take place between the 24th and the 30th of September, 2025. They have further stated that the payments will be staggered, thus lessening the congestion at the ATM and retail outlets. Beneficiaries can check the SRD website to verify the date of their payment.
Scheduled Changes Rationale
An amended schedule is necessary to solve the problems caused by long queues and slow payment systems during peak times. Having payments made on different days would ease the pressure on payment systems and improve the safety of the elderly and disabled persons. The agency also makes sure that payments are not made during public holidays so that funds are available for withdrawal. Congestion is further alleviated by advising beneficiaries to withdraw their funds some days after their payment date.
Payment Authentication Biometric Checks
SASSA will require biometric authentication for all new claims, including facial and fingerprint scans, starting September 2025, due to multiple fraud cases. This will also apply to current beneficiaries, who will be required to update their biometrics at SASSA offices and other authorised payment centers. Non-compliance with these requirements may result in the discontinuation of payments. The chance of fraud is greatly minimized with the use of secure payment methods such as bank transfers and the Postbank Black Card, which SASSA has made mandatory.
How to Check Your Payment Status
There are several ways for our beneficiaries to check their payment status, and even the Schedule Payment Dates:
- Visit srd.sassa.gov.za and enter your ID number and registered phone number.
- WhatsApp: Send your application ID to 082 046 8553.
- SMS: Text “STATUS [ID number]” to 32555.
- Through the Moya App under ‘Discovery’ SRD Updates.
Frequent monitoring makes it easier to detect banking issues, verification problems, and other issues causing payment delays. Such issues can be rectified in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted continuous payments.
How to Avoid Payment Delay and Scams
To avoid payment delays, beneficiaries must ensure that their phone and banking details are updated either with the banks or at SASSA offices. There have been numerous scams involving SMS or voice calls claiming to make early payments to beneficiaries. Such cases are best reported to SASSA via their abuse reporting line, 0800 60 10 11. When it comes to fraud, the Postbank Black Card and bank transfers are both safe methods for transactions.
