R2,315 SASSA Old Age Grant – September 2025 Payment Schedule Released

SASSA Old Age Grant 2025 : Millions, especially elderly South Africans reliant on the Old Age Grant from SASSA, can now organize their lives for September 2025 as these payment dates have been announced finally by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). Relief and clarity have finally come about for beneficiaries dependent on these monthly funds for their daily sustenance.

Old Age Grant Payment Amounts

The following amounts remain in place since April 2025 when SASSA increased grant payments in April 2025 and in September:

  • Older Persons (below 75 years): R2,315.
  • Older Persons (75 years and older): R2,335.

The amounts are part of government cushioning measures aimed at the most vulnerable groups who bear the brunt of rising living costs.

September 2025 Payment Dates

According to the confirmed payment schedule, payments will roll out in various phases to assure smooth payment issuance and to avert long queues:

  • Older Persons Grant: Monday, 22 September 2025.
  • Disability Grants: Tuesday, 23 September 2025.
  • Children and other Grants: Wednesday, 24 September 2025.

SASSA reminds beneficiaries that there is no need to rush out to draw money on the first day since the funds will remain in the accounts until they are withdrawn. 

How Beneficiaries May Access Their Money 

Depending on the areas they live in and their accessibility, older persons qualify for grants through various channels:

  • In their Bank Accounts through direct deposit.
  • With SASSA Gold Cards that can be used at ATMs and all retail partners including Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Spar.
  • Cash pay points in rural and remote areas.

To avoid delays, SASSA advises its beneficiaries to ensure their banking details are up to date.

For many pensioners, the Old Age Grant is a critical source of income. A 78-year-old pensioner from Mpumalanga related that: “Every month I buy groceries and medication with this money. The pay date is something I know of ahead of time and prepare for, and I manage with whatever little I have.” Such stories reveal the crucial role that timely payments play in the life of an elderly citizen.
