October 2025 SASSA Cuts: Full List Of Grants Ending After The Deadline

October 2025 SASSA Cuts : With October 2025 nearly upon us, government-dependent South Africans are keeping an anxious eye on the clock. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the termination of a number of grant programmes after the October deadline. These cuts are meant to keep government spending in check, but they have thrown the country into debate as countless vulnerable souls prepare for changes that could threaten their everyday survival.

The Reasoning Behind The Cuts

The Department of Social Development has issued a statement to the effect that budgetary pressures and the need to streamline support systems were behind these changes. Treasury officials have, however, taken the position that some of the temporary grants, particularly those that had been brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent cost-of-living crisis, are matters that can no longer be financed.

While, according to government, the most critical safety nets, such as the Old Age Pension, Disability Grant, and Child Support Grant, will remain in place, the questioning of smaller and short-term relief grants has given rise to worries on increasing poverty and unemployment.

Grants That Will Stop After October 2025

According to official information, after the previously set deadline of 31 October, the following grants will surely no longer be awarded:

  • Social Relief of Distress Grant (R550)–This grant, thrust in place as temporary relief, helped millions of unemployed citizens.
  • Care Dependency Top-Up–The additional monthly support given to families with severely disabled children will cease.
  • Temporary Food Voucher Programme–Introduced during the lockdown, the programme will no longer be funded.
  • Transport Assistance for Job Seekers–A pilot project to help unemployed youth reach interviews will finally terminate.
  • Emergency Disaster Relief Grants–Previously awarded to households affected by floods and fires or droughts, these payments will now only be handled at a provincial level.

Actions Beneficiaries May Take

The SASSA urged all affected beneficiaries to:

  • Check their status online or at local SASSA offices before October.
  • Look for alternate means of support through NGOs, community feeding schemes, or provincial programmes.
  • Update personal details to facilitate the granting of those that shall continue, for example, child support and pension.
