SASSA Old Age Grant Increase 2025 : SASSA Old Age Grant is more than just a mere financial reward offered to many South African seniors; it is one of dignity and survival. Rising prices for food, transport, and electricity have thus been a sorely awaited relief for pensioners. SASSA has now announced a grant increase for the year 2025, giving a much-needed uplift to the senior citizens.
New Grant Amounts For 2025
From October 2025, those aged 60 to 74 will receive R2,335 monthly, whereas those over 75 will be provided with R2,355. While this update may not fully cover inflationary effects, it offers some amount of solace to those households chiefly relying on this assistance.
Who Qualifies For The Old Age Grant?
SASSA Old Age Grants applicants must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees living in the country. They should be 60 years or older and not receiving any other social grant. Income and assets are considered during means testing to establish eligibility. Any senior earning above a certain threshold will not qualify, because the grant is a helping hand to those most in need.
October-2025 Payment Dates
SASSA has confirmed payments of Older Persons’ Grants will begin on Thursday, 2 October 2025, while the Disability and Children’s Grant payments will take place on other dates. However, beneficiaries are reminded that the money remains in their bank accounts until withdrawn, and there is no need to rush to collection points for the first day.
How Payments Can Be Collected
There are quite a few options to collect this grant in a comfortable style. A majority of the elderly go for the direct deposits into their bank accounts for safety and convenience. Others use SASSA gold cards to withdraw money at ATMS as well as from retailers such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Checkers. For rural pensioners, Postbank branches and pay points have also been designated.
