Eligibility Rules For 2025
Conditions That Have to Be Fulfilled to Earn The SASSA Disability Grant in 2025:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee residing in the country.
- Be between 18 and 59 years of age.
- Be subjected to a medical assessment to be declared disabled by a doctor appointed by, or in the employ of the State.
- Not earn above the means test threshold set by SASSA.
- Must not be in receipt of any other social grant, except for a care dependency or foster child grant.
A disability grant can be granted for either a definite term, temporary disability (from 6 to 12 months), or indefinitely in the case of permanent disability, depending on the results of the medical assessment.
Payment Dates In 2025
The R2,320 Disability Grant will be disbursed every month from SASSA and the payment period is usually in the first week of the month. Beneficiaries can then pick up their payments from their bank accounts, SASSA gold cards, ATMs, or retail centres selected by SASSA.
In October 2025, the payments shall be expected to start within the first three days of the month as a measure to ensure that the beneficiaries get the funds first before the payments for other grant types are disbursed.
How To Apply
Applications can be made at the nearest SASSA office, where applicants will be required to submit:
- A valid South African Identity document.
- A medical assessment report not older than three months.
- Proof of income and residence.
The applicants are hereby advised to apply well in advance as the approval process may take several weeks.
