SASSA R5,000 Pension Boost 2025 : Two big developments are under way in relation to the SASSA Old Age Grant payment. Starting in 2025, qualifying beneficiaries will be able to take up to R5,000 per month under the program. This adjustment is sought to mitigate living cost increases and ensure greater dignity for the older persons dependent on grants to sustain themselves.

Who Qualifies For The R5,000 Pension Boost?
Not every pensioner will automatically qualify for the full amount of R5,000. Eligibility continues to depend on income and residency requirements, just as they have done in the past. To qualify, the following conditions must be met:
- You should be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.
- You should be 60 years of age or older.
- You should not receive another social grant for yourself.
- Your income and assets should be below the set threshold as determined by SASSA.
This means that while the increase will be of benefit to many, the elderly with other sources of income may not qualify for the full R5,000.
When Does The Increase Start?
With the increase in the old age pension to R5,000, phased rollouts will begin as of early 2025, with payment schedules adjusted accordingly to reflect the new amount. Grants will be disbursed to the pensioners on the usual monthly SASSA payment dates, and depositors will receive their payments through bank accounts, SASSA cards, ATMs, or retailers helping SASSA.
