SASSA Biometric Verification 2025 : The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announced that biometric verification will be a mandatory element for grant beneficiaries in 2025. This is being introduced mainly for security reasons: to reduce fraud and ensure that grants get paid directly to the rightful recipients.
Why Biometric Verification?
Over the years, SASSA has faced challenges with fraudulent claimants, duplicate applications, and beneficiaries of persons who have legally passed away but whose grants continued to be illegally claimed. The biometric system that includes fingerprinting, facial recognition, and several other digital checks is aimed at eradicating these problems.
Whenever grants are linked to a unique biometric identity of the beneficiary, only the real beneficiary can avail himself of the grants, thus saving millions of tax money and ensuring that the vulnerable citizens, who depend on these grants, are taken care of.
Who Needs To Complete The Process?
All beneficiary types, including those that receive Old Age Grants, Disability Grants, Child Support Grants, and SRD R350 Grants, will have to undergo biometric verification. New applicants must produce their fingerprint data during registration, but the existing beneficiaries will be introduced to the system throughout 2025.
Beneficiaries will be notified by SMS or through official communication from SASSA when their turn has come in the process.
How To Complete The Biometric Verification Procedure In 2025
SASSA made the process easy and accessible:
- Go to the nearest SASSA office : Here, staff will record your biometric data, fingerprints, and facial scans.
- Bring along your ID and proof of residence : These two documents are verified.
- Follow SMS instructions in case you are selected for mobile verification : The beneficiary might be instructed to do the verification either by using a mobile device or by attending a community center.
- Confirm registration : A message will be sent to you by SASSA confirming that your grant was registered under biometric protection.
What Happens If You Don’t Verify?
It is this failure to complete the biometric process that could cause a grant delay or suspension. Therefore, SASSA has urged all grant beneficiaries to proceed with biometric capture once contacted, to ensure an uninterrupted payment process.
