SASSA Grant Increase 2025 South Africa : SASSA has officially declared an increase in the payments to social grants from 1st September 2025. The increase is an initiative of the government to help reduce the cost of living for its vulnerable citizens. 

New Grant Amounts For September 2025

Since September, there have been increases in payments across various categories. The Older Persons (Pension) Grant now pays R2,315 for those below 75 years of age, while those above the age of 75 will receive something marginally higher. The Child Support Grant is now R560, and the Foster Child Grant is R1,250. These increases would help households with inflation, food prices, and other essentials.

Who Qualifies For The Updated Grants?

Eligibility remains largely unchanged, meaning a current beneficiary is not forced to reapply. However, applicants must fulfill the following SASSA requirements for payment:

  • Old Age Grant : A grant given to South Africans of 60 years and above, who receive no other form of State pension or substantially less income.
  • Child Support Grant : Given to caregivers of children under 18 years, subject to income threshold requirements.
  • Foster Child Grant : Paid to foster parents who have a valid placement court order.
  • Disability Grant : Given to persons with disabilities permanently or temporarily disabled, confirmed by medical assessment.

Applicants are also required to undergo a means test to verify the grants go to those most deserving. 

How To Apply For SASSA Grants

New applicants can apply online, through the official SASSA service portal, or head on a visit to the nearest SASSA office with all the required documents: A valid South African identification document, proof of residence, and others pertinent to the application, such as a child’s birth certificate or medical assessment reports for disability grants.
