In September 2025, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has important updates for grant payments to implement. Among the grants are the Old Age and Disability Grants. It has now been set at R2,315 monthly. Furthermore, those beneficiaries who are 75 years of age or older got a payment of R2,335 in keeping with the recent changes to further support long-term providers.
Payment Dates For September 2025
Currently, according to SASSA, the following set of grant payments shall be made in early September:
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 2 September 2025
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 3 September 2025
- Children’s and Other Grants (Foster Child, Child Support, Care Dependency): Thursday, 4 September 2025
The above dates shall apply to all modes of payment from bank deposits to cash payments at retail outlets and pay points.
Grant Adjustments & Purpose
The April 2025 budget saw the following major increases:
- Old Age (60–74) & Disability Grants: Up R130 to R2,315
- Grants for those 75+: R2,335
These adjustments were put in place to allow vulnerable groups to cope with increasing costs of living.
Some very important tips for beneficiaries.
- No need to rush: These funds are safely sitting in the accounts and remain accessible even after the due dates, so there is no need to file on day one.
- Illegal deductions are to be eyed: SASSA cautions beneficiaries that only one unauthorized deduction is permitted monthly; deductions amount to 10% of the grant, however, this is with your consent. Should you notice unauthorized withdrawals, report immediately to the nearest SASSA office or SMS your ID number and the financial sponsor’s name to 34548.
