SASSA R700 Grant 2025 : To provide additional relief to vulnerable citizens, who are struggling with exorbitant prices, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will be rolling out a new grant of R700 in 2025. Food, electricity, and transport fare are still on the skyrocketing list; therefore, this grant stands as a blether of relief for thousands of low-income families across the country. 

Who Qualifies To Apply For The R700 Grant?

The R700 grant is meant for unemployed South Africans and those with poor incomes. To apply for the grant, the applicant must satisfy the following conditions: 

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or a recognized refugee.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Have a monthly income below the means test threshold set by SASSA.
  • Not be receiving any other government income support (i.e., NSFAS, UIF, or another SASSA grant).

An applicant cannot receive this without applying; instead, the application process ensures that the applicant meets the criteria.

How To Apply For The R700 Grant

The applicant must apply in one of two ways:

  • Online Application – By visiting the official SASSA website and filling in the application form, an applicant is to provide valid ID details and also proof of income or lack of it, along with a contact address.
  • In-Person Application – People with no Internet access may apply at the nearest SASSA office or at a mobile outreach point. They would be expected to bring a valid South African ID and supporting documents.

SASSA will be checking the application for validity as soon as it is submitted. Beneficiaries thus confirmed shall receive notification from SASSA via SMS or email.

Payment Dates For R700 Grants In 2025

SASSA has confirmed that payments will start in September 2025. Beneficiaries will be able to access their funds through:

  • Direct deposits into their accounts.
  • Payments in cash at retail partners such as Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, and Pick n Pay.
  • Postbank ATMs and branches.

Exact monthly payment dates shall follow existing monthly payment dates for SASSA grants, beginning from older persons, followed by disability, and lastly by child and other grants.
