SASSA Biometric Verification 2025 : From September 2025, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) said that beneficiaries will have to perform some form of biometric verification to be able to access their monthly grant payments. This additional procedure would help to protect the system from fraud so that grants can be given to deserving recipients.
Why Biometric Verification?
In the past, SASSA has been plagued by identity theft, duplicate accounts, and fraudulent claims.FPampa and facial recognition checks that cash rather than technical solutions have been considered: Through these techniques, the agency hopes to build security around the billions of rands that are paid out on a monthly basis.
An official from SASSA said, “It is biometric verification that will ensure that only the rightful person can access the grant. This system will help us protect vulnerable South Africans from exploitation.”
Step-By-Step Guide To Verification
If you were to go through the process for obtaining a grant, here is what you will do:
- Visit a SASSA office or designated pay point where biometric devices have been installed.
- Present a valid ID document to confirm your identity.
- Register fingerprints and facial scans on the SASSA system.
- Wait for a confirmation of successful details capture.
- Thereafter, you can continue collecting your grant as per usual, by bank transfer, via Postbank card, retail store, or cash pay point.
Beneficiaries have to go through biometric verification only once; from the second verification onwards, the system will recognize you automatically.
Who Needs To Do This?
This process applies to the following grants:
- Older Person’s Grant (R2,315 / R2,335 for above 75)
- Disability Grant (R2,315)
- War Veterans Grant (R2,335)
- Care Dependency Grant (R2,315)
- Foster Child Grant (R1,250)
- Child Support Grant (R530)
Even if you collect through a bank account, SASSA recommends completing biometric registration to prevent future delays.
