SASSA Grant Increase in August 2025: Check Full Payment Dates and New Amounts

The start of the increase in social grants became effective in August 2025 in South Africa. This adjustment addresses the increased needs of millions of recipients of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants. This adjustment provides some relief to struggling households and is a form of additional assistance from the state. Additionally, in aid of grant distribution, a payment schedule will be put in place. In the following sections, you will find the updated grant values, payment schedules, and important instructions for the grant recipients.

Updated Grant Amounts for August 2025

In coping with inflation, SASSA has set a two-phased increase, the first in April and the second in August of 2025. The amounts effective per month are as follows:

  • Older Persons Grant: R2,315 for 60–74 years (previously R2,190) and R 2,335 for over 75 years (previously R 2,210).
  • Disability Grant: R2,315 (previously R2,190). Care
  • Dependency Grant: R2,315 (previously R2,190). Child
  • Support Grant: R 560 per child, previously R530.
  • Foster Care Grant: R1,250, previously

The grant system has upgraded, and currently the Grant-in-Aid stands at R560, which earlier was R530. The SRD Grant remains at R370. This is R20 higher than in 2025, when it was R350, with expected increases ranging from R420 to R500 in the future. In 2024, the intention is to help more than 19 people purchase food, pay for utilities, and seek health care during 5.2% inflation, and 6.1% food inflation.

SCHEDULES OF PAYMENTS FOR AUGUST 2025

In an attempt to streamline the payment process and lessen the crowding at payment points, SASSA has provided the following payment dates for the month of August 2025:

  • Grant for Older Persons: 5 August
  • Disability Grant: 6 August
  • Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Care, Care Dependency): 7 August
  • SRD Grant: 16–29 August, dates are district-dependent; beneficiaries check at srd.sassa.gov.za to receive SMS notifications.

Funds can be cashed out from banks, and retail chains such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, and Boxer, as well as from SASSA cards. Beneficiaries are advised to withdraw their funds a couple of days after payment to avoid long queues, which is safer for the transactions.

Ensuring You Receive Your Payment

To ensure their payments are not delayed, beneficiaries should check and verify their banking details as well as their mobile numbers either via the SASSA portal (srd.sassa.gov.za) or by sending an SMS to 32555. Updating other banking details such as addresses and marital status is equally crucial for the effective payment process. To protect beneficiaries from fraud, SASSA advises beneficiaries to keep their PINs and other personal details confidential and strongly recommends the use of payment methods such as Postbank black cards, which will replace the old gold cards on March 20, 2025, as well as the use of ATMs.

Looking Ahead: October 2025 Increases and Reforms

The provisions from May 2025, which included planned increases of about R10 for most grants, are set to come into effect in October 2025. For instance, the Older Persons Grant will be R2,325 for the 60-74 age group and R2,345 for the 75+ age group. Although negotiations continue regarding further reforms concerning the SRD Grant replacing the UBIG, the open SASSA reform will address modernizing the system and will expand the grant coverage, which will include new reforms.
