SASSA Confirms Grant Cuts: Payments Stop After September 15 For Earnings Above R8,070

SASSA Payment Alert 2025 : Recipients of grants have been warned by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). From the 15th of September, 2025, anybody earning more than R8,070 per month would not receive any further grant payments.

Justifying The Cut-Off

According to SASSA, the regulation aims to prioritize those citizens who are in need of such grants the most. You are considered financially stable and will no longer qualify if your income is above that R8,070 threshold. A spokesman contended: “Social grants are for South Africa’s most vulnerable citizens. We must protect these funds so they reach the right people.”

Who Will Be Affected?

The change affects several grants:

  • The Older Person’s Grant.
  • The Disability Grant.
  • The Care Dependency Grant.
  • The War Veterans Grant.

In case your earnings are above the threshold, payments will cease after September 15.

How Do I Check My Status?

Beneficiaries are thus advised to check their details and update such records in order to avoid any sort of unanticipated suspension. You are able to:

  • Log into the SASSA website or use the Moya App.
  • Call the SASSA call centre.
  • Go to the nearest SASSA office with proof of income.

If you feel your grant has been unfairly stopped, you have the opportunity to lodge an appeal with the help of updated financial documents.

What It Means For Families

For many households, this is viewed strongly with concern. Any extra small income like leasing out a room or occasional income is sufficient to bump someone towards the cutoff. An elderly man in Cape Town said, “I earn a small amount renting a backroom, but now I fear it might cost me my grant. Without that money, life will be very hard.”
