SASSA R2,315 Old Age Grant 2025 : For millions of elderly South Africans, the main sustenance is the SASSA Old Age Grant. SASSA has thus confirmed that all senior citizens for which the law considers to be aged shall be entitled to receive a superannuation payment of R2,315 during the month of October 2025. This announcement waves off some stress for a couple of households in the advent of rising living costs in the country.

October 2025 Old Age Grant Payment Dates

According to the payment schedule issued by SASSA per province, beneficiaries shall know exact dates to expect their money. Payments, therefore, are made in the phases to avoid delays in terms of seniors accessing their grants due to large crowds at the pay points. 

Beneficiaries are consequently reminded that once the funds have been paid in the accounts, the money will remain there until they are withdrawn. Provincial Payment Schedule

While payment dates are nationally synchronized, SASSA has ensured that the rural areas and provinces with more beneficiaries shall receive priority in terms of support. The rollout in October will continue with this structure:

  • Eastern Cape And KwaZulu-Natal: Payments will commence in the 1st week of October.
  • Gauteng And Western Cape: Beneficiaries receive payments during the 2nd week of October.
  • Limpopo, Mpumalanga And North West: Payments set for the 3rd week of October.
  • Free State And Northern Cape: Payments will be concluded during the last week of October.

This phased implementation will aid in queue management and ensure a quick distribution of grants in provinces. 

Who Qualifies For R2,315 Old Age Grant?

An application for the October 2025 Old Age Pension Grant must meet with the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or a refugee.
  • Must be 60 years or over.
  • Must not receive any other social grant for themselves.
  • Must satisfy the means test that considers their income and assets not in excess of the thresholds set by SASSA.

For the beneficiaries to continue to receive their monthly payments on time, the system needs to be restructured, and the interface for new applicants must be digitally accessed, individuals must go online to the SASSA E-services center to apply for grant assistance from their nearest office.
