R2,315 SASSA Pension Grant September 2025 – Payment Dates And Application Guide

SASSA Pension Grant 2025 : South African senior citizens will soon be expecting their September 2025 SASSA pension grant that will seep much relief into the cash-strapped homes that depend on this income. Official payment dates have now been announced with SASSA stating that recipients will receive amounts upward of R2,315.

The grant, also popularly referred to as the Older Persons Grant, goes a long way in alleviating poverty among the aged. It is the only source of income to many and is used for their daily needs like groceries, medical needs, and transport.

SASSA September 2025 Pension Grant Payment Dates 

According to SASSA, pension payments will be made from:

  • Tuesday, 2 September 2025

Once deposited, the funds remain secure inside the beneficiaries’ bank accounts so pensioners can always pull out the money anytime during the month. SASSA has further suggested that there is no need to rush to ATMs or retailers on the very first day, so as to circumvent long queues and pressure at pay points.

Who Qualifies For The R2,315 Pension Grant?

Certain conditions must be met by the applicant to obtain the SASSA Older Persons Grant:

  • The applicant must be 60 years or older.
  • The applicant must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.
  • The applicant should not be in receipt of another social grant in his or her own name.
  • Pass the means test (income and asset thresholds).
  • The applicant must provide proof of residence and a valid South African ID.

Should the applicant be 75 years of age and older, a higher payment may be entitled to, as SASSA grants an additional increment for this age group.

Application Process For The Pension Grant

There remain three method options in application submission for those applicants who may have not yet applied:

  • Application submission can be accomplished online on the official SASSA website and is considered fast and fairly straightforward. 
  • Application submission can be realized in person at any accepted SASSA offices. With this method, applicants can get assistance from officials.
  • Through community or mobile outreach points, especially in rural areas. 

The applicant should present his or her South African ID, proof of residence, bank account details, and supporting documents to prove income and assets.
