SASSA Sends Two Payments In One Week: Check If You’re On The Double Grant List

In an uncommon development, a few South African beneficiaries were issued two SASSA payments in one week, both easing and puzzling them. This unusual development, coming to be known as the “double grant”, is gaining attention throughout the communities.

Why would There Be A Double Payment?

Double payments predominantly occur due to system backlogs or administrative delays. For instance:

  • A payment that was either missed or delayed in the previous month is cleared with the current month.
  • Similarly, delayed successful appeals or verifications are paid in a lump sum.

To put it simply, it’s not a bonus, but your grant that is finally cleared to your bank.

For What Reason Would You Receive Two Payments?

Every beneficiary doesn’t get two deposits. Beneficiaries who are the most likely to receive them are:

  1. People who had verification or documentation issues in the past which is now resolved.
  2. Beneficiaries with approved appeals related to identity or eligibility, which were cleared post the regular payment date.
  3. People whose previous payments were delayed by banking or system errors.

Actions To Take When You Receive Two Payments

SASSA has the following advice:

  • Verify: Review your bank statements along with any messages from SASSA to make sure that both payments are grants to which you are entitled.
  • Use: Since this additional payment will not be received regularly, try to utilise it in planning for essential expenditures.
  • Keep Records: Document all information regarding the dates and amounts of payments. This information is important if any clarifications need to be made later.

What If You Did Not Get Two Payments?

  • There is no need for concern. The fact that multiple payments are not received by most beneficiaries is to be expected.
  • Continue receiving your monthly grant as usual.
  • Ensure your information is kept current and comply promptly with any requests for documentation or verification.
  • For checking your status, refer to official SASSA website, use customer service hotline, or pay a visit to a SASSA office.
